What .work is

The .work extension opened in 2014, in the first wave of new generic top level domains that ICANN released after years of expanding the address space. It was launched by the British operator Minds + Machines, whose registry business passed to GoDaddy Registry in 2021, and that is who runs the zone today.

Registration is open: any company or private person from any country can take a name, and no documents are requested. The word work reads both as a noun and as a verb, so the extension suits service sites, portfolios, job boards, careers pages of larger companies and short working addresses in the form name.work.

The practical thing to watch in .work is the gap between the first year and the renewal. A promotional price makes the entry almost free, after which the name renews at the regular rate, so the renewal column is the one that decides what the domain costs over the years.
